Universities
Embroidery and universities shared a close collaboration for many years. For several decades, European educational institutions offered recognised qualifications in punching. Unfortunately, today only a few programmes in this field remain. Punching is a genuine craft. Some of the world’s leading experts in this discipline work at ZSK STICKMASCHINEN or with their partners, and originally received their training in formal education.
Technical embroidery in the areas of composites as well as e-textiles is in demand at universities worldwide. ZSK STICKMASCHINEN offers all educational institutions specially tailored machine packages and free access to the ZSK Punch Software for training purposes.

The ZSK Team created a library of training videos for teachers and students in schools for both educational purposes as well as projects to be completed in class. Embroidery machines such as the JGVA 0109 – a laboratory sized triple combination machine – is a popular example of a machine used in educational environments as it offers students the opportunity to get to know all embroidery techniques and capabilities.
Student Projects on Smart Home Textiles:
Joint Project of Hochschule Niederrhein and ZSK STICKMASCHINEN
As part of academic projects, students at ZSK STICKMASCHINEN gain insights into the advanced applications of embroidery machines in the textile industry and develop a practical model application.
ZSK Benefits for Universities
Software for Creating Embroidery Design Data
For non-commercial education and research, ZSK STICKMASCHINEN provides free licences for the EPCwin and BasePac software packages. This gives students and trainees at these institutions the opportunity to acquire and expand fundamental skills in creating embroidery design data.
Bachelor and Master
Each year, students complete their bachelor’s or master’s thesis at ZSK STICKMASCHINEN in the fields of engineering, fashion and technical embroidery. These projects are accompanied by an in-company internship at ZSK STICKMASCHINEN, providing valuable insight into practical work in industrial embroidery.
Research
Are you looking for an industrial partner for a planned research project in the fields of design, technical embroidery or e-textiles?
We already cooperate with many universities and have contributed to numerous outstanding projects. We are pleased to participate in academic initiatives that explore new applications for our embroidery machines.
Student Internships
We offer student internships at the ZSK STICKMASCHINEN headquarters in Krefeld, Germany.
Internships at ZSK STICKMASCHINEN in Krefeld, Germany can be organised to fit around academic schedules: we offer short internships lasting four weeks or part-time positions alongside university studies. At ZSK STICKMASCHINEN, our application engineering and e-textiles teams are regularly supported by two to three students.
An internship at ZSK STICKMASCHINEN gives students the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in topics previously taught only in theory at university.
Student Projects
More than forty universities worldwide are equipped with ZSK embroidery machines. In addition to providing access, ZSK STICKMASCHINEN supplies teaching materials to lecturers and supports research projects.
The project with Hochschule Niederrhein is an example of successful collaboration between students and ZSK staff.
Our team provides resources for teaching, including videos with step-by-step guides for sample projects to ensure the successful integration of our technology into the classroom.
Training
Whenever a new ZSK embroidery machine is delivered to a university, ZSK STICKMASCHINEN offers special training courses for lecturers and students.
Such training typically lasts between one and two weeks and includes operation, an introduction to punching programmes, and application training.

QR Code
Strange but Useful Patterns
QR codes have become a very useful tool for sharing information and resources quickly.
This can be valuable at trade fairs, meetings or networking events.
With F-head embroidery, QR codes can be added to materials quickly and cleanly, offering options for scaling and customisation. This technique can easily be applied to items such as tablecloths, samples or flyers.

eLace
Embroidery
Combination of ZSK technology for precise placement of LED sequins, conductive threads and free-standing lace techniques.
Embroidery using soluble backing material can create free-standing lace. Traditionally regarded as decorative pieces, these lace designs can now integrate LEDs or sensors by embedding sequins and conductive threads in a fully automated process.
A conductive yarn can easily be hidden within the design elements of the embroidery and directly connected to a battery (here provided by Teknikio).
Thread tension, short stitch lengths and layering help to create a piece stiff enough to maintain its shape and pattern once the backing is dissolved.
This technique offers the possibility of transforming something that has been seen for centuries as purely decorative and connecting it with function.
